===Life and contribution===&lt;br /&gt;
Elders studied comparative and African linguistics at the University of Leiden. His dissertation was on [[Mundang]], an Adamawa language of Cameroon (Elders 2000).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 2000, he joined a research project on Gur languages at the University of Bayreuth and concentrated on [[Téén]] and [[Kulango]], two languages of Côte d'Ivoire.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 2006, he joined a project on the Dogon languages led by Jeffrey Heath. He started fieldwork on [[Bangeri Me]] in September 2006, in a remote village in Mali. After a short illness, he died there of a tropical intestinal disease. He was buried in Dalfsen.&lt;br /&gt;
