Seine 1951 veröffentlichte Arbeit &quot;Methods in Structural Linguistics&quot;, in der er die wesentlichen Grundlagen des [[Distributionalismus]] zusammenfasste, machte ihn der Fachwelt bekannt.<br /> <br /> Desweiteren beschäftigte er sich mit dem Verfahren der Kettenanalyse, sowie einer eigenen frühen Form der Transformationsgrammatik.
