In Phonetics, bottom-up information is sensory information, or acoustic information carried by the speech signal itself.

Comments

The distinction between bottom-up and top-down sources of information is often used in models of auditory word recognition.

Top-down information covers all types of non-sensory information (such as knowledge of the word, context information, and lexical knowledge).
