Anaphoric pronoun

Anaphoric pronoun refers to a pronoun which 'refers back' to another constituent in the sentence.

Example

If his in John loves his mother has the same referent as John, it is an anaphoric pronoun.

Comments

Pronouns which are not anaphoric pronouns are called deictic pronouns. Not to be confused with anaphor.
