In morphology, (semantic) relevance refers to the different degrees to which the meaning of affixes and other elements affects and interacts with the meaning of the stem (following Bybee 1985).
- "[a] meaning element is relevant to another meaning element if the semantic content of the first directly affects or modifies the semantic content of the second" (Bybee 1985:13)
