Citation form

The citation form of a lexeme is the word-form which is used by linguists and educated speakers when talking (metalinguistically) about the word.

Examples

The citation form of a noun is generally the nominative or absolutive singular. With verbs, it differs: In Italian it is the infinitive, in Latin the first person singular present, in Arabic the third person singular perfect.
